    What is Pilates?

“Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit”  Joseph Pilates.

Pilates is a complete exercise that is named after its founder, Joseph Pilates, and it aims to improve physical and mental health. Pilates exercises work on the whole body through a wide array of mat and equipment-based exercises with the aim of re-balancing muscle use in the entire musculoskeletal system.

The exercises strengthen the body’s core and improve posture through a range of low repetition and low impact stretching which develop muscles without adding bulk.

    Benefits of Pilates

“Pilates can help with many common complaints such as back and neck conditions, which can arise from bad posture and injuries. A lot of women have also found Pilates to be of great help during and after pregnancy.

Those who attend sessions regularly develop better fitness, mobility and flexibility of the spine. Their posture is improved because Pilates improves overall muscle balance in the body, creating a long and lean muscle tone. The exercises increase body awareness and improve stability. The major joints of the body are aligned while in motion which greatly reduces the occurrence of injuries.

Talking of injury prevention, Pilates improves neuromuscular control, re-balances body strength and increases movement awareness resulting in better and safer use of the body which, in turn, means fewer injuries from daily activities as well as from sports. Since the person develops better alignment and posture, the joints suffer less wear and tear. The flexibility that develops over time helps to avoid injuries and enhances recovery when they occur.

Pilates is for everyone. It is a unique fitness system that’s designed to suit you. Whatever your ability or daily routine, we have time and space for you!
